This year I had the privilege of delivering the SSEAC 2020 Politics in Action Update on Laos.
Sydney Southeast Asia Centre’s annual Politics in Action forum brings political updates from Southeast Asia to researchers and practitioners from across the disciplines and beyond. This public forum is traditionally held at Sydney University, but was this year delivered entirely online via SSEAC’s Facebook Page and Youtube Channel.
In my presentation, I focused on possible changes in the Party Congress, human rights and political freedoms, international relations, transnational connectivity and some recent developments in the hydropower sector. I also briefly discussed COVID-19 and its nascent effects in Laos. The presentation can now be viewed below,
And a follow-up Q&A can be viewed here,
For a brief written summary of the presentation, you can see my write up on New Mandala here: Looking Ahead: Laos in 2020 and beyond
New Mandala is hosted by the Australian National University’s (ANU) Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs in the College of Asia and the Pacific. It provides anecdote, analysis and new perspectives on Southeast Asia.
Many thanks to New Mandala and SSEAC for the opportunity to share some of my research.
